Roger Raveel – Venster in Tourves

SOLD

Roger Raveel (Belgian, 1921–2013)
Venster in Tourves, 1988
A crisp, architectural composition where a dark window frame becomes a stage for light, colour, and textured pattern. Raveel balances graphic simplicity with subtle surface interest – cool greys and blue lines set against warm yellow fields, punctuated by confident red and green accents. Signed and numbered from a limited edition, this is a striking example of his clean, modern visual language.

  • Colour woodcut / linocut on paper

  • Hand-signed and numbered in pencil: 58/100

  • Dated 1988

  • Size: 59 × 49 cm

Description

In Venster in Tourves, Roger Raveel distils a familiar motif – the window – into a bold, modern construction. The strong black frame anchors the image, while the surrounding planes and angled lines suggest space, light, and perspective without describing a literal scene.

The palette does a lot of the storytelling: warm yellows glow behind the panes, while cool greys and blues create a sense of structure and air. Fine patterns inside the window add texture and visual “noise,” contrasting with the clean, flat fields that make the composition feel calm and contemporary.

As a print, the work has a confident clarity that reads beautifully on the wall. Its balance of geometry and warmth makes it easy to place in both minimalist interiors and more eclectic settings—always with that unmistakable Raveel sense of measured play.
