Description
Circle in Blue (2024) reframes Ai Weiwei’s most recognisable act of defiance into a refined, almost hypnotic form. The raised middle finger—first introduced in 1995 through his Study of Perspective—spins outward in a seamless composition, turning a simple, universal gesture into a concentrated statement about power, resistance, and the individual right to speak.
What makes this edition especially compelling is its object-quality presence. The work is a die-cut circle (tondo) printed as a three-colour silkscreen including metallic pigment, built up through 11 separate layers. The crisp blue-and-white palette and lustrous finish intentionally echo Weiwei’s celebrated porcelain works—and, by extension, the deep history of Chinese ceramics from the Yuan and Ming dynasties.
This example is hand-signed and hand-numbered (45/100), offered framed (⌀ 67 cm), and comes in perfect, new condition, complete with the certificate of authenticity and the original box.
